PENAL SCHOOL FOR RETARDED CHILDREN
This is an ongoing project undertaken by Dr. N. Premanand of the Rotary Club of San Fernando.
The Minister of Legal Affairs, Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, was a guest speaker at a meeting of the parents and children of the school on the 23rd of March, 1996. Three Rotarians, including Dr. Premanand, attended this meeting.
Dr. Premanand reported that 60% of the 100 children he had seen suffered from ENT problems and 30% from dental problems; these cases were referred to the San Fernando General Hospital. Of the remaining 10%, those children who had eye problems were seen by ophthalmologist, Rotarian Dr. Lloyd George at his surgery. Referrals were made to other specialists for speech therapy and dermatology.
