“YOUTH – THE IGNORDED BREED”
The strength of any society is in its people. One of the definitions of society is “the civilized body of mankind”, so that without people, there could be no society.
That the whole is as good as its parts is as applicable to a society as it is to other things. The more educated, enlightened, healthy etc a people, the greater the strength of that society. A society, however, is not a static thing. It keeps growing and changing. Like a garden, though, it cannot grow by itself. It must be constantly tended and nurtured.
In the beginning, society was perfect, the world was perfect. Like the proverbial garden, however, sufficient attention was not paid to it, and it became infested not only with weeds, but with crops of poor quality. You see, the nurseries which eventually grew into plants were not given the attention that was required.
For several decades we allowed the youths in our societies to grow on their own. We had no time for them. We were busy with other things, things like wealth, power, and standing in society, things which, of course, are important as well. But what thought have we been giving to the future, their future?
There are those who would argue that the children of today are better provided for than the children of yesteryear. But provided with what? Money, fast cars, parties every weekend, uncensored television, pornography, carnival as we know it today? That list could go on.
When are we going to realize that we have a duty to society, to the world, to leave it a little better, not worse than when we came into it. This generation may be lost, but our children and grandchildren can still be saved.
It is the children of today who will become that society of tomorrow. They are the strength of not only tomorrow, but also of today, because there can be no tomorrow without today.
